“Where Does it Hurt?: An Entrepreneur’s Guide to Fixing Healthcare” by Jonathan Bush

Dear CSS Members & Colleagues:

Enclosed are two chapters in a very interesting book that should be required reading if you are interested in the future of healthcare in the USA. Jonathan Bush is the founder of Athena Healthcare ( https://www.athenahealth.com/ ) and is the nephew of George W. Bush. But don’t hold that last part against him. As you can see in what I’ve sent, he is a rebel, or in his own words “One of the Crazies” as he fashions himself akin to Steve Jobs as he has a desire to disrupt healthcare the way Apple disrupted the personal computer market. Indeed, Clayton Christensen, the originator of the concept of Disruptive Innovation, wrote the forward to this book ( https://36eb151d-be38-4d3d-97b4-00a101d46d36.filesusr.com/ugd/7bbdc5_e9c784b6757543649ba069676292b1a1.pdf ) If you are interested in Jonathan’s ideas I’d recommend you buy the book as it is a great read. It hits close to home for me as he takes dead aim at Major AMC’s and the barrier they present to innovation. In particular he focuses on the MGH, which he calls “The Big Kahuna.”

For your convenience, I’ve highlighted the important sections as this will give you the essence of Bush’s message. That said, I’ll bet you’ll want to reach both chapters fully.
