Re: “The Digital Episode of Care: A New Paradigm in Orthopedic (Shoulder) Surgery”

Dear colleagues:

Enclosed (YouTube | VuMedi) is a lecture I gave about one month ago in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia at King Faisal Specialty Hospital. Here I consider the potential of digital tools to disrupt and improve surgical education, surgical planning, execution and postoperative recovery. The technologies discussed are Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning, Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality, Mixed Reality, Navigation and Robotics. In addition I present the potential for AI to oversee and manage a patient’s postoperative recovery using modified apps to guide the patient following surgery.

It is impossible to say for sure how soon you will have access to all of this technology, though most implant companies already have planning tools which use virtual reality. The value proposition is real. AI/ML may be the most disruptive technology of all since it has the potential to reduce errors in planning and execution.

I hope this is interesting and useful for you as you consider how you will use this technology in the future to benefit your patients.

Note: If you are a physician, health professional, or hold an allied health position in business, you may join VuMedi for free and view this lecture through the VuMedi link. This membership will also grant you access to over 60,000 videos made by physicians across all specialties. If you are not in one of these roles, I recommend you view the talk on Youtube.

Kind Regards,
