The Impact of a National Registry

Dear Colleagues,

This year’s Annual Meeting of the Codman Shoulder Society (Del Coronado Hotel, San Diego, June 17) will feature a session on Innovation and Entrepreneurism. It is no surprise that one of our Keynote Speakers is Christian Gerber. Few of his generation have been as influential and innovative as Christian. Attached is a short article he has written about the Swiss National Joint Replacement Registry, which he helped create more than a decade ago. He discusses funding, and a comparison to the value of randomized controlled trials. The information provided in a registry can be extremely important when it comes to analyzing the impact of new technology and implants. I hope you find this of interest, and I also hope to see you at our annual meeting in San Diego this June.
